Cara was born in Ft. Eustis, Virginia and raised in Oologah, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Oologah High School in 1983. She received her undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma in 1986 and her law degree in 1990 from Oklahoma City University where she was Research Editor for the Law Review. Cara is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, Oklahoma County Bar Association, and the Christian Legal Society. She is admitted to practice in the Oklahoma State Courts, as well as the U.S. District Courts for the Western, Northern, and Eastern Districts of Oklahoma. She is also admitted to practice before the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Cara has extensive experience in employment law and civil and business litigation. She has experience in both the private and public sector, having previously worked for the Oklahoma Tax Commission and Oklahoma Employment Security Commission. Cara’s practice is comprised of a broad range of civil litigation, such as representation of clients in employment disputes, contract and business disputes, probate and trust litigation, and guardianships. Cara also represents clients in need of estate planning and counsels employers in various areas of their business. Cara’s experience in estate and trust litigation has earned her inclusion in Oklahoma Super Lawyers, a magazine that identifies attorneys who are in the top 5% of their field.
Cara and her husband, Tim, enjoy spending time with their two sons, daughter-in-law, and their granddaughter. The Nicklas family is actively involved in their church where Cara serves in various leadership and teaching capacities. Cara has served as a volunteer lawyer for Trinity Legal Clinic of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Lawyers for Children. Other volunteer activities include serving as chair of the Transitional Leadership Council for the newly formed Global Methodist Church. In addition, Cara is involved in the Congo Initiative’s efforts to promote the rule of law in Congo. When conditions permit, Cara travels to Beni, Democratic Republic of Congo to participate in a Justice Conference involving Christian lawyers in Eastern Congo who seek to elevate justice in the context of a broken system.
